Information Summary:
By the encapsulation technology, the degradation of betaine in the rumen can be reduced, allowing it to be released in the small intestine. In our company, the rumen bypass rate of rumen protected betaine is not less than 80%, and the small intestinal release rate is not less than 90%.
Betaine is a naturally occurring alkaloid with strong hydrophilicity and moisturizing properties, and is widely present in animals, plants and microorganisms. Betaine participates in methylation reactions and osmotic pressure regulation in organisms, and has the functions of promoting fat metabolism, improving liver function and protecting cells.
Betaine, as a highly active methyl donor in animals, plays an important nutritional regulatory role in methyl metabolism and can replace some methionine and choline.
In the process of protein and lipid metabolism in animals, the participation of methyl groups is required. However, animals themselves cannot synthesize methyl groups and need to absorb methyl groups from daily ration. At present, the commonly used methyl donors are choline and methionine. Choline must first be oxidized to betaine before providing methyl groups. This reaction requires the participation of VB12 and riboflavin, and is easily inhibited by the elements such as nickel, cobalt and iron salts, with a relatively low conversion rate. Betaine's provision of methyl groups is not affected by these factors and can provide methyl groups more directly than choline chloride. Besides, methionine has only one unsteady methyl group, while betaine has three unsteady methyl groups and is a more effective methyl donor.
Betaine buffers the osmotic pressure shock and maintains the osmotic pressure balance of cells. When the osmotic pressure of tissues changes, betaine can be absorbed by cells to prevent water loss and salt entry, regulate the ionic balance of water in the animal intestine, maintain intestinal function, and slow down the occurrence of diarrhea.
In the daily ration of ruminants, the betaine could be easily degradated into trimethylamine by the ruminal microbe, then to affect the normal fermentation function of the rumen. By the encapsulation technology, the degradation of betaine in the rumen can be reduced, allowing it to be released in the small intestine. In our company, the rumen bypass rate of rumen protected betaine is not less than 80%, and the small intestinal release rate is not less than 90%.
